U.S. Weather Headline: Record-breaking heat roasting Northwest
The Northwest region of U.S. is experiencing record-breaking heat this week as temperatures soar into triple digits in some areas. A heat dome is trapping hot air over much of Washington state, Oregon state, Idaho state, Montana state, and Wyoming state, creating dangerous conditions for people and wildlife. Several cities have set new all-time high records for May, such as Spokane, Washington state, which reached 109 degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesday. The heat wave is expected to last until Friday, when cooler air from Canada will bring some relief. However, the extreme heat could also increase fire risk, drought stress, and power demand in the region.
